Greek Park
Drainage, utilities and maintenance first
- Address gutter wastewater pooling.
- Add or repair curb cuts or other drainage so water can escape.
- Address the large tree entangled with neighboring utility lines through coordination among an arborist, the utility and the property owner.
- Put maintenance and safety ahead of cosmetic projects.
Sueño Dog Park
Routine safety and user stewardship
- Treat mole holes as a trip and injury hazard for dogs and people.
- Keep a permanent shovel and rake on site.
- Add a small locked maintenance/tool shed.
- Establish a regular fill-and-inspection routine.
- Recruit dog-park users into stewardship.
Rock-Climbing Boulder
Put inspection on the maintenance calendar
- Inspect holds regularly for torque and tightness.
- Maintain and replenish the wood-chip fall and landing area.
- Set clear inspection intervals.
- Treat this as a safety issue, not merely recreation programming.
Food Forest
Build a stronger volunteer system
- Recruit UCSB and student groups as well as long-term residents.
- Hold scheduled stewardship days.
- Give volunteers defined plots or tasks rather than a vague “come help.”
Camino Pescadero
Rehabilitate beach access through partnership
- Seek grants for beach-access rehabilitation and improvement.
- Because the beach access is County-owned, pursue County partnership and joint funding rather than pretend IVRPD controls it.
- Recognize that the District’s investment in adjacent Camino Pescadero Park is diminished when the public beach access next to it is dysfunctional.
Pelican Park
Graffiti: faster response and better treatment
- Push for faster graffiti abatement.
- Consider commissioned art or mural treatment where appropriate.
- Because Pelican Park is County-owned, work with and press the County rather than promise unilateral IVRPD action.
Anisq’Oyo / Amphitheater
Preserve the amphitheater as a public asset
- Oppose bulldozing or removing the amphitheater for commercial development.
- Preserve the historic stage, restrooms and gathering space.
- Do not sacrifice civic and recreational space merely to create commercial frontage.
- Any redesign should preserve amphitheater function first.
Unhoused Residents
Compassion plus practical management
- Recognize that moving a tent does not make homelessness disappear.
- Expand hygiene-kit distribution at or near public restrooms.
- Coordinate outreach where unhoused residents actually congregate.
- Discourage tents beside children’s swings or play areas, or where they block creek trails, gazebos or other public facilities.
- Intervene when aggressive or uncontrolled dogs create safety problems.
- Use relocation when necessary, while being clear that displacement is not homelessness policy.
- Protect ranger and staff safety and connect difficult cases to County services.
Children’s Park
Finish the funding job
- Close the approximately $1 million funding gap.
- Preserve high-value project elements where possible.
- Learn from cost escalation when budgeting future grant-funded projects.

- Locally controlled revenue is essential to core District operations and maintenance.
Grants / Fundraising
Broaden the funding base
- Pursue grant funding for Camino Pescadero beach-access improvements.
- Use park-based fundraising events.
- Reach South Coast donors and users who benefit from Isla Vista’s parks.
- Explore a “Friends of IV Parks” or “IVRPD Fund” 501(c)(3).
- Use Food Forest and stewardship participation as volunteer leverage in grant and fundraising efforts.
Board Reform / Self-Government
Professionalize expectations without closing the door to community participation
- Chronic absenteeism is unacceptable.
- Board membership is work, not résumé decoration.
- Expect attendance, committee participation and preparation.
- Publish or track director attendance clearly.
- Address prolonged absences promptly under applicable policy and law.
- Recognize that cancelled or nonfunctioning meetings damage public confidence.
- Treat competent IVRPD governance as part of Isla Vista’s broader case for greater self-government.
- Keep the Board accessible to students and community members while maintaining serious expectations of directors.
